It Wasn’t Like This When I Studied The Sciences

It certainly wasn’t like this when I studied the sciences back in the ’70’s and ’80’s (that’s 1970’s & 1980’s not the 1870’s…).

This album; The Sciences by Sleep is superlative! From its concept, cover art, song titles and of course music, is just perfect. It should be compulsory listening in any science class.

The album builds upon Sleep’s Holy Mountain (which I played straight afterwards) and ‘delivers…’ as the sticker on the outer cover states. What it does do for me, is confirm there just isn’t enough Sleep – we need more.

I reiterate, It certainly wasn’t like this when I studied the sciences.

However, what this album does is prompt you to go out and find any and everything by Matt Pike and Al Cisneros. Matt in his incarnation as High on Fire and Al in his, as Om. High on Fire brings a lot more energy and I class as a Heavy Metal band whereas Om are more a spiritual successor to Sleep, although Sleep are by no means out of the picture. Hopefully there will be more Sleep in the near future.

As you may know, if you’ve been following my blog, I like Sleep – see here, here & here
